POSITION: Senior Communication Specialist 

The Kenjya-Trusant Group is seeking a Senior Communication Specialist to join our team. This position is in the Program Office Communications Division within USAID’s Bureau for Inclusive Growth, Partnerships and Innovation (IPI). The Program Office Communications Division is responsible for overseeing communications activities for IPI leadership and Centers and Hubs throughout the Bureau to advance IPI and Agency priorities. The Bureau for inclusive Growth, Partnerships, and Innovation (IPI) provides thought leadership and technical assistance that catalyzes inclusive growth, expands partnerships, and generates innovative solutions to complex development challenges. IPI leads in carrying out key Agency priorities, including pursuing gender equality and inclusive development, mainstreaming our work with local partners across the Agency, and expanding private sector partnerships. We also lead the Agency in advancing education, cybersecurity and digital access, and economic growth.This position will provide strategic communications and public engagement support for the IPI Bureau and Agency. Primary activities include managing clearances, press, outreach, social media, and event support for IPI technical programs. The incumbent will create and maintain linkages with key networks, package program information and results for a variety of audiences, and identify creative communications channels to create actionable content and engagement opportunities to highlight IPI programming internally and externally.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides expert advice and guidance to Program Office and Bureau leadership on IPI and Agency communications and engagement processes and procedures and leads communications and engagement activities and processes in relevant areas of expertise.
  • Reviews and supports clearance of communications and relevant materials for IPI or other portfolios as assigned to ensure consistency with Agency and IPI messaging, policy, and procedures. 
  • Conceptualizes, develops, and leads implementation of IPI communications strategies and activities, including top-line messaging, marketing materials, and communications tools
  • Writes, edits, and oversees the production and dissemination of strategic communication materials, including but not limited to online feature stories, blog posts, case studies, fact sheets, presentations, and video scripts.
  • Manages the editorial process and pipeline, including sourcing and pitching story ideas and editing content. 
  • Assists in drafting social media content. 
  • Monitors development news, trends, and best practices, and translates into actionable content. 
  • Supports the management and growth of an active community of practice using a variety of internal and external channels (e.g., newsletters, webinars, live events, online platforms, etc.) and leveraging a mix of communication resources (e.g., toolkits, case studies).
  • Develops online content for and manages external and internal web platforms. 
  • Acts as liaison between IPI operating units and the Bureau for Legislative and Public Affairs and IPI and Agency front offices in communicating Agency policies and procedures, priorities, and guidance related to internal and external communications and engagement activities.
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • At least ten years of experience and a M.A./M.S. degree preferably in communications, international development, business, economics, public policy, or a relevant field.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex communications portfolio(s)
  • The ability to obtain a current “Secret” clearance
CLEARANCE LEVEL:
  • Staff working on this effort must possess the ability to obtain a current “Secret” clearance.
  • Requires compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d); USAID Graphic Standards (available at www.usaid.gov/branding), USAID Mission & Core Values (available at http://www.usaid.gov/who-we-are/mission-vision-values) or any successor branding/mission/core values policies.
ESTIMATED SCHEDULE:
  • Full-time - 40 hrs/week
  • Telework eligible - 3 days/week in office
PLACE of PERFORMANCE:
  • Washington, DC - 
  • Travel - Limited to No International and Domestic Travel
